A small steering rack, for the owner of the car really life security!

When the steering gear is out of order or damaged, many people choose to replace the steering gear themselves due to cost considerations. But is it difficult to replace the steering rack? Will there be a repair problem so difficult that you can’t solve it yourself? I hope you will read my article, I interviewed many car owners and auto mechanics to summarize their views. If you’re planning to replace your steering system yourself, be prepared to deal with the following problems! I hope to help you solve your car steering system problems.

1 Step to remove the steering rack

  1. Lift the car on the lift table.
  2. Loosen the power steering rack input shaft dust cover, as shown in Figure 1 below.steering rack
  3. Unscrew the screw from the steering column clamping bolt mother, as shown in Figure 1.
  4. Remove the clamp from the clamping bolt, and remove fasten the bolts as shown in Figure 1.
  5. Release the steering column from the power steering gear input shaft.
  6. Remove the front wheel.
  7. Remove the tie rod ball joint.Maintenance diagram:Use the jack to support the rear of the front subframe,As shown by arrow 1 in the figure below.Remove and discard the 2 bolts securing the front subframe support rod to the body as indicated by arrow 2 in the picture below.Remove the 2 bolts securing the rear of the front subframe and the front subframe support rod to the body and discard, as indicated by arrow 3 in the figure.steering rack
  8. Remove the 2 bolts and safety washers securing the center of the front subframe to the body and discard
  9. Remove the 2 front subframe support rods.
  10. Lower the rear of the front subframe.
  11. Position the container to collect spilled oil.
  12. Remove the 2 bolts that secure the power steering gear oil return pipe to the front subframe.
  13. Disconnect the power steering gear oil supply pipe connection and discard the gasket.Maintenance diagram:Remove the connection of the power steering oil return line and discard the O-ring as shown below.Remove the 4 bolts securing the power steering gear assembly to the front subframe assembly.Remove the power steering gear assembly from the driver’s side.Remove the sealing ring of the input shaft of the power steering gear, as indicated by the arrow in the figure below.steering rackDisassembly Note:As shown below, mark the location of the lock nut on each tie rod for easy installation use.Remove the tie rod and lock nut from the power steering gear.

2 Steps for installing steering gear

  1. Center the power steering gear and place each locking screw the female is fixed to the tie rod.
  2. Screw the tie rod onto the lock nut of the steering gear so that the tie rod ball joint is upward.
  3. Install the power steering gear input shaft sealing ring so that the groove of the steering gear input shaft sealing ring marks on the gear.
  4. Install the power steering gear assembly and fix it to the front subframe assembly, be careful not to lose the steering for the sealing ring of the input shaft of the machine, install 2 lower bolts and tighten them to 40~50N·m.
  5. Reinstall 2 upper bolts and tighten to 40~50N·m.
  6. Clean steering line fittings and joints.
  7. Install a new O-ring on the oil inlet pipe of the power steering gear, install the oil inlet pipe of the power steering gear and tighten it to 18~22Nm.
  8. Install the 2 bolts that fix the oil return pipe of the power steering gear to the front subframe and tighten it to 19~25N·m.
  9. Install a new sealing ring, fix the oil return pipe of the power steering gear, and tighten the butt bolts to 18~22N·m.
  10. Lift the front subframe assembly, and install the safety washers and new self-locking bolts that secure the front subframe.
  11. And tighten to 110 ~ 120N m. 11 Install the self-locking bolts that fix the front subframe support rod to the body and tighten to 19-25N·m and 110-120N·m respectively.
  12. Connect the tie rod to the steering arm and tighten the nut to 28~32N·m.
