Today I have compiled for you some common faults and troubleshooting of fully hydraulic steering gear, if in the process of driving your car on a daily basis, you also encounter the situations mentioned in this article, I hope this article can help you!

If you are interested in steering rack-related knowledge, you can read my other articles in the “Resources” on this site or contact me through the sidebar, and my colleagues and I will do our best to help you!

1 Suddenly feel the car steering heavy or steering wheel can not turn

Cause and Exclusion:

1) Insufficient oil absorption. Insufficient amount of oil in the tank, too much oil viscosity, blocked oil suction filter, etc. can lead to the oil pump can not suck oil. The liquid level of the tank should be verified, add enough hydraulic oil; replace the appropriate fluid; clean or replace the filter element.

(2) Excessive wear of the oil pump, internal leakage is too large. Must check the working condition of the oil pump, repair or replace.

(3) Not installed human steering check valve; impurities pad up check valve steel ball to make it seal with the valve seat is not tight; check valve steel ball fell into the valve sleeve and valve body between the ring groove, these can lead to power steering when the check valve is not closed tightly, into, out of the oil port connected. Should check the installation of the check valve, the fluid is clean, clean the steering; check the sealing of the check valve steel ball and valve seat, is not strict, can use grinding repair, and then change the new steel ball.

(4) The safety valve of the steering gear is out of order and opens prematurely. The safety valve spring should be checked for deformation or failure, if the spring elasticity is not enough, you can add shims between the spring and the piece.

(5) The valve spool and valve sleeve are deformed, which will lead to both jammings. A small amount of hydraulic oil should be filled into the oil inlet before installation, and the valve spool should be flexible when turning. Sometimes, when tightening the bolt at the bottom of the steering gear with uneven force, the spool will also be stuck, the correct method is to tighten the bolt evenly 2 to 3 times.

2 Steering wheel runaway

Causes and troubleshooting:

(1) The positioning spring between the spool and the valve position in the steering gear breaks so that the valve sleeve cannot automatically return to the neutral position, and the steering gear loses its follow function. In this case, the positioning spring must be replaced.

(2) The motion of the slide valve is blocked by dirty oil. The slide valve should be cleaned to make it move flexibly.

(3) Due to the offset of the slide valve and valve body step position, the valve body is not in the middle position. The slide valve and valve body should be disassembled and serviced and replaced if necessary.

3 Steering wheel rotation, can not return to the neutral position

Causes and troubleshooting:

This fault generally occurs in the repair or disassembly of maintenance steering reassembly, due to the relative position of the rotor and linkage installed wrong, resulting in misalignment of the steering oil distribution relationship. The linkage should be reassembled so that the mark on the spline of the linkage is aligned with the mark on the spline of the rotor. If there is no mark, the centerline of the pivot pin slot on the upper end of the linkage should be aligned with the centerline of any tooth on the rotor.

4 Steering wheel shaking serious

Cause and exclusion.

(1) Mechanical failure. For example, the gap between the connecting pin and the connecting pin increases after wear, or the steering wheel bearing is worn. The normal working condition of the system should be restored by checking the clearance and replacing the parts.

(2) There is air in the steering cylinder. Loosen the joint at the end of the steering cylinder and turn the steering wheel so that the oil flows into the cavity of the cylinder through the steering gear without loosening the joint until the loose joint is not bubbling but only flowing oil, then tighten the joint.

5 The steering wheel can rotate without restriction and the steering wheel has no action

Causes and troubleshooting.

It is mainly because the two-way buffer valve in the steering rack is out of order or the piston seal of the hydraulic cylinder is damaged. The piston seal of the hydraulic cylinder should be replaced; check the two-way buffer valve, so that the valve spool and the valve seat are closely combined.
